The Canary Island Archipelago is composed of 7 islands which have a volcanic origin: Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Ténérife, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro.

Tenerife is the biggest of all the islands with an amazing variety of different landscape. The South is dry with a little vegetation. The north is the opposite.

There are many activities for tourits. The nature lovers will certainely appreciate what's on land but also at sea. There are some theme parks with animals such as monkeys, dolphins, orcas, pinguins, etc.

Anyway if there is one activity you should try, it is with no doubt Scuba Diving.

There are many diving spots in Tenerife but it's in the South of the island the most diving is done. In the fishing village of Las Galletas (red dot), are a few diving center. There you're away from the big tourist area and very close to the dive sites. Las galletas has a very friendly Canarian atmosphere.

All the dive centres have their boats in the harbour in a walking distance of 2 to 3 minutes. Las Americas, Los Cristianos and Adeje where all the hotels is not far (10 to 15 min) which is convenient to pick you up and bring you back at your hotel.

The diving journey is splitted in two with one trip in the morning and the second in the afternoon. In between it is possible to have a snack in the retaurants of the sea front for a few euros. Normally the day of diving is finished around 15h00. Time to have a deco beer and talk about diving.

There is a abundance of marine life in the waters of Tenerife. The variety of different fish or others is captivating and there is a lot to see on every dive. Here the visibility is excellent all year round and so is the water temperature with a minimum of 18°C in the winter

The morays are without any doubt the ones you see the most on the reefs of Tenerife. There are many different kinds on every dive site. Even if they look agressive, they are very harmless animals but don't tease them too much and watch your fingers !!!

It is always nice to see the morays swimming in free water between the huges underwater volcanic formations. The dive site of "Champiňones" is where you see the most swimming morays. Don't forget your digital camera.

The dive site in the south are suitable for all divers whatever is their level. The underwater scenery is breath taking with theses basaltic formations emerging from the sandy bottom. Some areas look like a big underwater arena. Diving in Tenerife is diving inside enormous volcanic formations witnesses of an old and intense volanic activity. That's why Tenerife is a great dive destinations with warm and chrystal clear waters.
